Haugastøl 1000 MOH

Environment

We like to say as little as possible and do as much as possible. In recent years we have invested heavily in our own energy production – and the results are measurable.

View accommodation

On this page you’ll find numbers and measures: solar production, heating and power, how we operate – and what you as a guest can contribute.

Solar Haugastøl: 168 kWp on roof, facade and pump house

This is not a symbolic project. In 2025 our solar plant produced more than half of the hotel’s total electricity consumption. That means less strain on the grid, more control over energy costs – and more robust operations in the mountains.

Measurable and robust

Measurable

We report numbers, not just intentions.

Robust operations

Less exposure to price and grid variation.

Local impact

More of our energy comes from our own production.

Long-term

We build infrastructure that lasts.

Heating, power and other measures

Water-based heating

Installed in Slødtfjorden in 2003 (upgraded May 2014).

We have several km of cables in Slødtfjorden that via a heat pump provide heating for both hot water and underfloor heating in apartments. The system requires about 10 kWh input but delivers about 40 kWh back – a huge energy saving. As a guest you notice it through greater comfort: type B and D apartments have underfloor heating in all floors.

Energy-efficient windows

In spring 2015 we replaced all windows in the restaurant, type A apartments and Fjellrom with triple-glazed energy windows (U-value 0.6 W/m²K). Lower electricity use for us – warmer, cosier rooms for you.

All power from Ustekveikja Energi

Ustekveikja is a local power company that only produces environmentally friendly hydropower. The plant is located 8 km west of Haugastøl along Rallarvegen and uses a 110 metre head between Tungavatn and Bergsmulfjorden.

LED lighting

Since 2013 we have been replacing light sources with energy-saving LED, significantly reducing our electricity consumption.

Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn) since 2003

We have been certified as an Eco-Lighthouse company since 2003. Eco-Lighthouse is Norway’s most widely used environmental certification for businesses that document their environmental efforts and social responsibility. It involves systematic work on environmental measures, annual reports and recertification every three years.

Operations with a smaller footprint
